Watson approaches the Beatitudes in the absolute biblical sense. Thomas Watson (1620-1686) was an English, noncomformist, Puritan preacher and author. He spent 16 years as pastor of St. Stephen’s, Walbrook before a brief imprisonment for his involvement in a plot to recall Charles II. I don't know of any other collections like this of Thomas Watson, but this is definitely one of the best bargains on Amazon if you are a Puritan fan.

This is simply one of the best commentaries on the Beatitudes. It is too bad a reprint of this book is not offered in hard-cover. True to the great Puritan tradition, Watson insightfully presents much truth to ponder.
If you like this book I also highly recommend Martin Lloyd-Jones' book "The Sermon on the Mount."

No one squeezes as much out of a few verses as Thomas Watson. This book is exactly that. At times, it's almost a bit tedious, but you'll never lack for perspective on the Beatitudes with this book in your library.

One of the better books on the Beatitudes if you are doing an in-depth study.
Thomas Watson is simply wonderful. He opens wider the door of understanding on every subject he undertakes, and this work is particularly important.
Excellent book, the author is easy to read and is full of pastoral insight on the sermon on the mount. Also, at the end is an short but excellent commentary on Romans 828-29.
